Being a network administrator, you may set up a server in the headquarters' network and the R&D department's network, and monitor them at ease without physically connecting yourself to the network segments.
The server is written in Java, and is text based. One simple command can turn the computer into a powerful monitoring tool. The clients do not require any installation. The clients run as a Java applet, so any browser with Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can run the clients. Download JVM here.
The typical sequence of operation is as followed below:
1. When the server is set up, it starts monitoring the network, and waits for any incoming client connection. Assume the server has IP address: http://192.168.10.20
2. From any computer, fire up your favorite browser, and enter the URL as: http://192.168.10.20:44800/
3. Then you are ready to monitor the remote network's traffic
With Free edition, you are limited to monitor only one network segment.
